

Baladi Oranges are the locals favorite citrus variety preferred amongst the majority of rural Egyptian communities. The word Baladi is an Arabic term typically used as an adjective to describe a product as being locally made or indigenous to Egypt.
The Baladi orange variety is known for having a high sugar content with plenty of juice and a moderate amount of seeds. They are often compared as being similar to Valencias in nature, yet they are not exactly the same.
The Baladi orange variety offers a very similar nutritional health profile as the other citrus varieties being exported from Egypt. Providing high levels of Vitamin C, a variety of carotenoids, and large amounts of various flavonoid polyphenols such as Hesperidin, Naringenin, and even a few different types of Anthocyanins as well. These flavonoid polyphenols display potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, working as cofactors alongside asorbic acid to facilitate detoxification processes, increase blood flow, and potentially improve cognitive functioning.
